First stop was in Pikeville, KY where we stopped by The Mccoy family home AFTER the original cabin was burnt by the Hatfields. It is pictured above and appears to be an Italian restuarant now. Ranal Mccoy moved here in 1888 after his cabin was burned. He moved in with the survivors of his family to be closer to town and away from the Hatfields. Randoplph Mccoy worked as a Ferryman running a ferry across the Big Sandy riv er.
We then hiked up a residential area to reach this old graveyard where the lawyer Perry Cline was laid to rest see pictured above. One of the neighbors was kind enough to let folks take shortcuts through his steep yard as he worked out in his flower garden. We quickly began to notice that folks around here enjoyed finding the steepest and most difficult hillside to climb when it came to burying their loved ones.
When we went in search of the actual site where the hanging of cottontop took place here is where we came to. You can see teh historical marker in the photo, howeve3r Pikeville University has since planted its roots in the spot.
